Working towards Green: Investors in the Environment
Scenariio are a company that take the environment seriously. We believe that reducing our own carbon footprint will not only benefit us but benefit the future generations. To show our commitment to the cause, we have joined the Investors in the Environment (iiE).
The iiE is a national environmental accreditation scheme. It is designed to help organisations save time and money, reduce their impact on the environment, and get promoted for their green credentials. The iiE provide all the help, support, and networking you need to make your organisation greener and ensure you get recognition for your eco-initiatives. Members’ achievements are highlighted at events and promoted through e-newsletters and as online articles and case studies.
The iiE scheme is unique because organisations must achieve a minimum 2% improvement in resource efficiency over an agreed baseline figure, to secure green accreditation. Other criteria include having a recycling system in place, adopting a travel plan, calculating your organisational carbon footprint and setting targets for carbon reduction.
In the coming months, you will see more from Scenariio in relation to becoming Green. We will be involved in ‘Zero Waste Week’ and detail to you how through implementing an Environment Management System (EMS) we hope to reduce our carbon footprint through lift-sharing, prioritising video conferencing in place of face-to-face and use of recycled materials.
George Pritchard, our appointed Green Champion, stated
“I joined Scenariio out of University, where I studied modules in both Sustainability and the Environment. This led me to understand the importance that even small changes in can make in carbon reduction. One of my requests upon joining Scenariio was for us to promote our desire to become green, and, after speaking with Ella at the iiE’s Central Region office, I was certain that becoming a Green member of the iiE was the best route for us to take. We don’t see this as a badge collecting exercise, as the scheme requires us to drive down our carbon output by 2% minimum per annum. I see this as a way of guiding Scenariio to become a more sustainable company that does not rely on the Earth’s natural resources to maintain our competitive market position. Our customers who have installed smartengine intelligent lighting have seen their carbon footprint reduced by up to 44 tons per year, it is important that we do all we can to improve on this amazing saving from within our organisation itself.”
